What's coming up in Glasgow

At Alston Bar & Beef, we love that Glasgow is a city defined by its resilience. While our doors remain closed following the fire on Union Street, our focus is firmly on what lies ahead and what an exciting few months the city has in store.

Glasgow has never been short of energy, and 2026 is shaping up to be a landmark year. The headline event, of course, is the return of the Commonwealth Games 2026, running from 23 July to 2 August. The city will welcome around 3,000 athletes from across 74 nations, transforming Glasgow into a global stage for sport, culture & celebration and we’re looking forward to it.

But it’s not just about the sport. Alongside the Games, a city-wide cultural programme will bring communities together through festivals, creative events and street-level celebrations, ensuring there’s something happening in every corner of Glasgow.

We’ve also got the World Cup to look forward to so will Scotland progress to the second round for the first time??? Beyond the summer, Glasgow continues to build momentum. From major live events at the SEC and OVO Hydro to international sporting fixtures like the upcoming cyclo-cross World Cup later in the year, the city’s calendar is packed with reasons to visit, explore and celebrate together, ideally while enjoying a steak and some cocktails at Alston.

Although we’re still closed, we’re looking ahead with optimism. We can already picture the buzz returning to Union Street: pre-event dinners, post-celebration drinks, and the familiar hum of a city back in full swing and Alston in full flow!

Until then, thank you for sticking with us. Glasgow’s best days are never far away, and neither are we.Lots of love,

 The team at Alston
